Some kind of shark. Photo by author.

The profile page on Medium is useless. I’m not complaining; it is what it is. But, today, I’m doing something about it. This may not work at all. I may not care.

Writers have gone to great lengths to avoid the endless scrolling that comes from the author’s profile page. Pinning a bunch of articles that you like is all fine and dandy, but many people have pinned several, and I don’t go to their pages because of it. Typically, if I go to your page, I want to see what you’ve written lately, or your About Me piece.

Some have done all the extra work of creating that index thing, which may work, but sounds like a lot of, you know…what’s that stuff we avoid like the plague? Work. And the index is not particularly attractive, though it is a good workaround.

In reality, a better way to set up an author’s profile page would be to let us set it up just like a publication. You know — with topic sections, featured pieces, different tabs, and other useless information.

Your own publication is a much cleaner way to display your work. Pieces you’re proud of that were written longer than a month ago never appear anywhere on the platform unless they pop up…
