I see my little girl come home from school encountering this sort of thing often. It’s as if people are trying too hard to swing the pendulum back, and all our kids need is the freedom to be who they are.
My six-year-old comes home from school and says, “Daddy, I have a lot of ‘boy’ toys.” I responded, “It doesn’t matter what you like, as long as you’re happy with it.” She likes Spiderman, Sharks, and Princesses. Hey, whatever works!
As the husband of a strong, independent woman, and the father of a beautiful, intelligent, powerful little girl, I work every single day to figure out how to give her the best chance for success and happiness, whatever that may mean to her — -not what it means to the rest of the world.
