Unfortunately, I know no secrets other than to keep showing up all the time. I don't have a niche either, and have written about that very recently.

I do firmly believe in engaging with writers, though, whether it helps or not. Followers don't necessarily mean more reads, either. Medium is an enigma wrapped in a conundrum. But I think if we write quality work in our authentic voices, followers and reads will come in due time.
