I actually found Medium to be filled with info and stories written by people like you. I suddenly felt less alone and it took the mystery out of it all. I was sober-curious until this past December and have been sober since January.
I've talked to counselors and therapists that have suggested AA, but I could never get past the "God" stuff. You're right, there are tons of other tools at our disposal today.
