Hi Julie! The truth is that editors don’t make any money, nor do pub owners. Editors are essentially donating their time because they believe in the vision of a publication or want to help writers. Pub owners don’t make any more than other writers either. Owning can help build an audience, which, in turn, can increase viewership.
I would say that the major advantage to owning/editing are the connections made. They have the ability to publish in their own publications at will and bring on editors they trust. There is no distinct financial advantage to it.
