Since the very beginning of my writing journey here I’ve tried to be open with my writing, knowing all the while I may expose something you may not like, and more importantly, something I may not like. That’s kind of what writing is about. And that has happened recently.

In recent pieces I’ve been called an “ageist.” I never thought of it before. To be honest, I try not to focus much on too many “-ists” for several reasons, but one is because they’re dynamic and subjective and loosely defined.

Nonetheless, I wrote this in a piece of satire the other day:

In today’s day and age, we’re increasingly aware of gender fluidity. We’re breaking the mold of binary roles, and I think it scares some people. Chief among them are the boomers, but they’ll be dead soon and we won’t have to worry about them anymore. — Source

I’ve heard my boomer father-in-law say this exact thing. In fact, that’s where I got the line. In the article I used it in a satirical way, but nonetheless, someone took exception to it. I don’t mind because it gives me the ability to see something from another perspective, and it gives me something to think about. I like thinking about things, I don’t really care if I’m right or wrong. It’s not about an argument, it’s about perspective and learning.
